In contrast, pyrometallurgy involves thermal treatment, roasting, smelting, refining, where ores or concentrates are heated to high hashtagtemperatures (often above 1000 °C), causing physical and chemical transformations; metals separate from gangue by melting or density differences and are recovered in molten or refined form. Pyrometallurgy is highly effective for high-grade ores and is well suited for large-scale hashtagprocessing, enabling high throughput and often delivering high-purity metals quickly. However, it demands substantial energy, generates significant emissions (e.g. sulfur dioxide, CO₂) and requires robust pollution controls.
In practice, the choice between hydrometallurgy and pyrometallurgy depends on hashtagore type, grade, mineralogy, economics, and environmental considerations. Many modern operations favour hydrometallurgy for lean, low-grade, or complex ores, or where environmental regulations are strict, while pyrometallurgy remains dominant for traditional high-volume, high-grade metals like hashtagiron, hashtagcopper, hashtaglead, hashtagzinc.
